HR-XML Seminar in Paris
Continuing its serial of successful seminars, HR-XML Consortium Europe organized a further event in Paris on May 18th. Besides the latest developments from the workgroups SEP localisation, SIDES and European Competencies, this year’s spring event focussed on Lifelong Learning issues like ePortfolio and Europass.
The seminar was held at the Hôtel Millennium Paris Opéra and attracted more than 50 participants.
The European SIDES Workgroup
The Staffing Industry Data Exchange Standard, SIDES, was developed to streamline data interchange between software applications in order to automate the procurement of human capital by enterprise customers from staffing companies. At the May seminar, PleinU presented the SIDES localisations for the Netherlands.
The European SEP Workgroup
The Staffing Exchange Protocol (SEP) is a set of XML specifications that supports many types of recruiting and staffing transactions. These include the posting of jobs to job boards and company career sites, and the exchange of candidate details. The workgroup explained when SEP can be used for which process (in contrast to SIDES) and presented its current project of a Geman standard CV.
The European Competencies Workgroup
The European Competencies workgroup will soon start a project working together with two European projects and a car manufacturer to define European wide competencies.
With ePortfolio and KITE we presented two topics from the life long learning sector. The initiative ePortfolio aims at giving every citizen in the European Union the possibility to store his educational history, work documents and CV data in a standardized format for communication between individuals and organisations.
KITE is a European project, supported by the European Union that aims at promoting the use of Europass and especially Europass CV. This should be achieved by developing an HR-XML compatible add-on allowing to fill in the Europass CV on blogs using Wordpress 2.0, ELGG and DotClear 2.0.
Business benefits through standardization of encoded values
After standardizing on data structure (syntax) encoding could be the next major goal for HR-XML to achieve. Therefore a new workgroup within HR-XML that has the goal to advise on a coding scheme that members may optionally adopt or reference (i.e. build a translation table between their coding scheme and the HR-XML advised coding scheme) is actually being built up. With this advised coding scheme exchange may take place without further ambiguity.
